Submission Guidelines
We are looking for fiction that has high purpose, as well as high craftsmanship. Stories should be less than 5,000 words, and in good taste. That is not to say stories shouldn't be intense, or even disturbing, if they have a redeeming value over and above sensation.
Photography, drawings, and paintings are welcome, too. So are poems, essays, and reviews.
Multiple submissions are okay. Be sure to identify the submission as such, and to tell us right away if you've sold it elsewhere. Now, because we're buying first-time rights, we'd like to have original stories that have never been published before. However, we aren't averse to reprinting very good stories from quality journals and magazines once in awhile, if you have the rights to sell to us. Please remember to tell us whether your piece has been published before or not, and where.
Note that PAR will be distributed electronically as PDF's. We won't put stories up forever on a website, but we may, under Fair Use, put up just an excerpt as a teaser, to entice readers to subscribe or to buy individual issues.
Right now, payment is only a very tiny amount ($5), but hopefully as the journal grows, payment will increase. We'll buy first-time rights, but with a twist: PAR will consider 5000 copies (we should be so lucky), electronic or otherwise, to be first time. Any copies sent after that will be considered reprints, which will have to be negotiated separately. This way, if something sells very well, the authors will be able to participate in the profits. We've already ordered our new cars, how about you?
Text submissions should be e-mailed as part of the body of the e-mail (no attachments, please), and e-mails should be all text (no HTML, if you can avoid it--if you're not sure how to do that, don't worry about it). Art work is something else again. For that, you will either have to use attachments or HTML. Just let us know you're sending something that way ahead of time, so we can make arrangements for your e-mail to get through our filter. Down the road, we'll put up an upload page on this website, to make it easier for you to submit material.
E-mail your entries to Editor@PoconoArmchairReview.com. Paper submissions should be sent to the address above. Please type submissions, with a one-inch margin, double spaced, one side of the paper only.
