Short-Story Contest
Welcome to our inaugural short-story contest. We are looking for fiction that has high purpose, as well as high craftsmanship. Stories should be less than 5,000 words, and in good taste. That is not to say stories shouldn't be intense, or even disturbing, if they have a redeeming value over and above sensation.
The contest has several objectives. We want to discover new talent, reward it via a prize, and showcase it in our journal. We also intend to partially fund the launch of the Pocono Armchair Review via contest entry fees.
The entry fee is $10 per submission. Submissions should be e-mailed as part of the body of the e-mail (no attachments), and e-mails should be all text (no HTML, if you can avoid it--if you're not sure how to do that, don't worry about it). E-mail your entries to Editor@PoconoArmchairReview.com. Paper submissions should be sent to the address above. Please type submissions, with a one-inch margin, double spaced, one side of the paper only.
First prize is $100 and publication in the Pocono Armchair Review, for which you grant to us first-time rights.
Second prize is $50, and publication as mentioned above.
Should we have a large number of entries, we may increase the prize and/or the number of prizes.
The deadline is April 30, 2008.
